UnPredictable Weekened for City of Plano | September 2011 The thunderstorms moving into our area this evening was one more for the weekend. Rain, although much needed and appreciated, played havoc on the Plano Balloon Festival. Neither Saturday nor Sunday morning were the balloons given the okay to lift off. I didn’t attend but Sunday afternoon was good weather for a visit to the festival grounds only the balloons were missing. Tomorrow plans will begin for next year’s festival and I’ll be eagerly anticipating them once again. Even the first Nascar race for the chase in Chicago was delayed due to rain. Officials held out hopes that they would be able to run the race under the lights. By late afternoon that hope was diminished and officials called the race. It will run Monday afternoon. Out in San Francisco the Dallas Cowboys pullled off a win with a great play in the last of the fourth quarter. The game went into ovetime and Cowboys scored first winning the game. An A'Maizing Day in Murphy Murphy Maize Days, September 24, 2011 Maize Days in Murphy promises to be an entertaining day of fun for the whole family. The festival started out as an event to celebrate Murphy’s 50th Anniversary. The event was so well-received by the community that it has now become an annual event. The name Maize Days was selected due to the fact that corn was the area’s biggest crop in days past. Murphy Maize Days, September 24, 2011 will be held on the city’s municipal grounds located at 206 N. Murphy Rd. Parking will be provided in the Plano ISD complex, Tom Kimbrough Stadium, and a shuttle service will be available for those that prefer not to walk. Festivities begin with an 8:00 am fun run followed by an A’Maizing 5K run at 8:30 am. The festival hours are 10:00 am until 8:30 pm opening with local area vendors in the Maize Market and closing with a fireworks* show. Kids Zone which covers the southeast quadrant of the complex is filled with lots of entertaining activities for the little ones including pony rides and photo ops. Live entertainment hosts local artist favorites Eleven Hundred Springs and Zane Williams. But don’t take my word for it. Come on out and find out for yourself. There will be a scarecrow contest, corn spitting contest, corn karaoke and lots of food and fun for the family. * weather permitting - last year's festival was rained out and the fireworks were enjoyed over the Christmas Holiday Celebration   Looking to move to the Plano area? One of the more popular water parks is at the Great Wolf Lodge located in Grapevine. You must be a guest of the resort to enjoy the water park which features an inside or outside (seasonal)  pool. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor offers up more than twenty rides with slides, pools, rapids and kids splash area. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is located in Arlington. Be sure to check their website for any online pricing options. Hawaiian Falls, located in Garland and The Colony offers slides, lazy rivers, wave pools and inner tube rides. On their website they offer party packages and food packages.
