Many new homes have a master system, and untold numbers of contractors may have been issued keys. Over the years, a resale owner may have given many keys away to friends, neighbors, or relatives. And of course, nearly EVERYONE has keys to REO properties. There is no way of knowing who has keys and if their intentions are malicious, but locksets are relatively inexpensive and the fix is an easy one. And for peace of mind and a good “first-night” sleep it should be done as soon as possible.
