Make It an All-American Tradition

Make it an All-American Tradition

photograph of the Dr Pepper BallparkSaturday night at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco TX the RoughRiders took home the win against Tulsa. For awhile it looked like an easy win for the RoughRiders unitl Tulsa came along and tied it about half way through the game. In the 8th inning the RoughRiders took the lead back and went on to shut out Tulsa in the top of the 9th.

It was a pleasant evening to be at the ballpark. The seats were full and spirits high. There was mostly families with children of all ages. The families are one thing I enjoy about the ballpark. Another is Deuce and Daisy, the team’s mascots. They always have plenty of crowd pleasing entertainment on-hand.

Monday, Memorial Day, May 30th the RoughRiders host Tulsa one more game at home before heading out on the road. The game starts at 4:00 pm if you want to celebrate Memorial Day with some All-American baseball. Perhaps everyone will make it an All-American traditon by taking a moment during the game to honor all those fallen soldiers who gave us our freedom to enjoy baseball.

A Moment of Silence

A Moment of Silence

A Moment of Silence

With Memorial Day 2011 just around the corner may we all take a moment of silence and bow our heads in honor of the men and women whose lives are now silent that we may enjoy the freedoms of this great country, America.

A Sobering Reminder

Photograph of a cross located along the roadwayAlong the highways and roadsides of our nation we periodically encounter the image seen in the photo. It is a sobering reminder of the responsibility one has while driving. The cross pictured is at the intersection of a T-street. On the cross itself is the date 04-27-99 and the initials of the person lost. I have watched this cross over the years. Someone who knows the pain of loosing a loved one has faithfully kept up with the cross by either changing out the flowers or the cross itself.

Accidents can and will happen at any moment of any day. We can do our part by driving responsibly and remembering the rules. Practice safe driving and avoid those things that distract or hinder our alertness. In Texas along the highways are signs that say “Drive Friendly”. It is a good rule to follow by always looking out for other drivers too. Nobody wants to see these sobering reminders. To all those who read, have a safe and happy day!

Murphy Moonlight Movies

Moonlight Movies in Murphy

Murphy is a relatively small community when one considers the other communities surrounding it. The size of the city is part of its attraction for the residents of Murphy. One thing Murphy has accomplished over the past several years is to build neighborly events for everyone. What originally started out as a movie in one area has grown into a city wide event.

Image001
Moonlight Movies are presented by Murphy Parks & Recreation in partnership with Murphy Community Development Corporation. Residents are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket, if you prefer and enjoy a family friendly movie under the stars. Movies start at dusk.

In 2011 three such events were planned in various neighborhood parks. The first one held in April was at Mustang Park and the movie Secretariat was viewed. The second one scheduled for Friday, May 20th was to be held at North Hills park. Since it looks like rain the city has made a change to avoid a rainout and will be showing Despicable ME at the Murphy Activity Center. The center, by the way, is undergoing renovation.

The last movie planned for Moonlight Movies is RV scheduled to show on June 24th in Aviary Park. Be sure to bring your family and enjoy these showings. Murphy TX It’s a Good Life!

Raincamp Comes to Dallas

It's Raining in Dallas

It’s Wordless Wednesday; that’s good because the words just don’t seem to want to flow. I’m pretty sure some readers would appreciate the picture alone of the Raincamp badge. It’s loved photograph of Raincamp badgethat much! Only I would still have all this nervous energy built up in me ready to burst forth. That’s why I have decided to share some of it with you. Yes, indeed, I find myself getting eager about the upcoming Raincamp in Dallas. It is next week! There will be two full days of Raincamp this year. During the sessions they always share some wonderful new ideas and plenty of information to apply to our businesses. This is a big plus for Raincamp but this year it’s going to be all about the people.

In the past year I have come to know and appreciate so many of the Rainmakers who make the site what it is. Not all of them live in Dallas but a good number of Rainmakers will be here. Today I learned that Joni Staples will be coming to Dallas. This is good news! I have been reading and sharing on Joni’s blog for sometime now. I like to think that we have built a friendly relationship online. It will be great to meet her in Dallas and put a person to the persona. I could make a long list of names of people I hope to meet but I am saving that for next week!

I have seen and read so much buzz about Raincamp in Facebook, Twitter and, of course, here in the Rain. If you haven’t purchased your ticket please do. It’s raining in Dallas, May 24th and 25th.

What Price Are You Willing to Pay

The Price of a Gated Community

Gated communities are a reality in our cities, big and small. As a society we have paid a price for those gates due to rampant social issues plaguing our nation. One reason we choose to live behind the gates is our human effort to reduce the chance of becoming clipart of oyster with pearlvictims of murder, rape or burglary. These crimes are an all too common irritation to our daily lives and the list of crimes could go on.

One gated community sought by many people has gates of an even greater price. These gates were bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ. It was His blood that formed the covering of protection found on the gates. Just as an oyster suffers from a grain of sand creating the pearl Jesus suffered grievously for all the sins of humanity creating the One pearl that covers the gates.

Invite Jesus into your lives today for forgiveness of sin. Jesus will open the gates of Pearl and let you come in.

Grand Opening in the Villages of Allen

The Look of In Out Burgers

Photograph of Grand Opening

I posted a blog on In Out Burgers opening in the Villages of Allen yesterday. Amazed by the stories I was hearing about all the people flocking to the grand opening. I wished I had a photo to go with the story. I have my wish ~ In Out Burgers on Wednesday afternoon for the grand opening.

The Buzz in Allen TX is Over Burgers

In Out Burgers or Buzz

I don’t think I have heard so much talk about a restaurant opening since back in the days when Whataburger came to our area. The buzz around town is about the all famous In Out Burgers. They opened their doors in the Villages at Allen on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:30 am.

As I write this on Wednesday evening I am keenly aware of a terrific thunderstorm that has been pounding the area for at hamburgerleast the past two hours. Yet I read on Facebook that people are lined up outside waiting to get in the door. Cars are lined up at least a half mile waiting to get to the restaurant. I have heard so much talk about this place but I can assure my readers that I will not be standing in any line storm or no storm.

A burger is a burger or is it? Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first store in California giving birth to California’s first drive-thru restaurant in 1948. The store was operated on the principles of giving the people food made with the highest of quality and a sparkling clean restaurant. These principles have been passed down over the years and a legend was born known as the In Out Burgers.

Although times have changed the menu at In Out Burgers has not. They still make their orders fresh without the use of microwaves or freezers. All stores remain family owned and there are no plans to sell franchises. With a record like this maybe a burger isn’t just a burger. I will only know when I go and try them for myself just not in the rain or opening day.

Wednesday's Words

Hope's Door

Purple RibbonHope’s Door is a safe haven for families suffering from the abuse of family violence. They offer direct intervention and protective services to the families of Collin County. Victim’s services are offered free of charge. If you are a victim of abuse call their hotline at 972-422-7233 (SAFE).

The statistics on family violence are alarming. It is believed that 1 in 3 women have been victims of abuse at some point in their lives. On average, 3 or more women are murdered by their intimate partners every day...in the United States. Millions of children witness abuse each year. These numbers are staggering leaving one to wonder what they can do to help.

Here at Keller Williams Central Market Center in Plano, Texas Hope’s Door was selected to be the recipient of our acts of kindness in honor of Red Day. Red Day is a tradition with Keller Williams in honor of their CEO, Mo Anderson’s birthday.

A collection of professional attire has been underway for several weeks now. Other personal items i.e., toothpaste, deodorant has also been collected. The collections will be delivered to the center to assist women in their search for employment and personal care. In addition a group of volunteers including myself will be going over to assist in painting and cleaning some of the rooms in the shelter. These efforts are small in comparison to the need. If you would like to contribute or learn more click on the link for Hope’s Door.

Exchange Club of Murphy

At the Exchange Club of Murphy relationships are being built. Who is the Exchange Club? Its members are people who have a concerned interest in Murphy and the communities surrounding it. Men and women coming together to volunteer to help make our part of America a better place to live.

One program promoted by the Exchange Club is Americanism which promotes pride in America, respect to our flag and our freedoms. Some of the programs that support and encourage Americanism include

§ One Nation Under God

§ Proudly We Hail

§ Get Out the Vote

If you would like to know more about the Club or how to volunteer come on down to Country Burger* this evening at 6:00 pm for the first ever evening meeting. Additional information can be obtained from the Exchange Club of Murphy website. I hope to meet you there.
